2018 Pathfinder Adds More Safety Features

Nissan’s venerable Pathfinder returns in 2018 with new advanced safety features.

And a new Midnight edition continues with the winning combination of next-generation technology, power, comfort and safety that has made it popular for years.

Under the Hood

The 2018 Pathfinder is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with dual overhead camshafts and multipoint direct gasoline injection that delivers 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque.

The engine is teamed with an Xtronic automatic transmission with D-Step logic control.

Basic models come standard with two-wheel-drive powertrain systems, but drivers can opt to go for the intelligent four-wheel-drive system, which not only gives the Pathfinder offroad performance deserving of its name, but includes an automatic mode that helps drivers retain control on slippery road surfaces.

Comfort and Convenience

Nissan designers built the 2018 Pathfinder to comfortably seat seven, and the driver and front passenger have it best with available seat heating and ventilation along with multi-way power-adjustable seats.

The second row of seats is split 60/40, while the third row of split 50/50 to allow for a variety of seating and cargo carrying configurations.

A six-speaker audio system is standard, but upgraded models feature 13 speakers including subwoofers. The 8-inch color touchscreen display is standard for both and serves as the control center for the infotainment system. That system syncs with smartphones for hands-free voice calls, audio streaming and mobile app integration.

Nissan’s optional Connect navigation system gives turn-by-turn directions ensuring drivers are on the most efficient route possible, and it includes three years of SiriusXM Traffic service. Top-of-the-line models feature a mobile entertainment system with 8-inch headrest-mounted screens and a DVD player.

Safety

A full set of airbags is standard and complements standard three-point seat belts to protect occupants in the event of a collision.

Also standard are antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability/traction control and a rearview camera, which makes reversing safer and easier.

Available features include the intelligent around view monitor with moving object detection, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.
